Indirect Evaluation of a Noisy Vessel Passive Detection Structure

In the paper it is considered the problem of the statistical evaluation of the vessel passive detection structure. We suppose that the vessel underwater acoustic signal is a sum of the zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance and of a finite number of sine waves with extremely weak amplitudes. These two signal parts are mutually statistically independent. The deep-sea ambient noise is supposed to be a zero mean Gaussian stochastic process with a finite variance as well. To evaluate the vessel passive detection structure performance we have to consider the probability density function of the receiving signal that is the sum of the vessel underwater acoustic signal and the deep-sea ambient noise or the probability density function of the deep-sea ambient noise only. The indirect evaluation measure is now the so-called deflection coefficient that is the function of the difference between statistical expectations of the two possible probability density functions of the receiving signal.
