Model of the Adriatic regional ecosystem
The theoretical basis of the modellíng approach to large scale ecosystems is summarized through several system principles and properties of ecosystem states. The stages of a complete mode · procedure are given. . The model of the Adriatic regional ecosystem has been divided into six submodels: air, terrestrial, lake, stream, sea, and tourism. In this paper only the sea submodel has been presented. It consists of a web of interactions among physical, chemical, and biological holons. A 78X78 binary connectivity matrix of the model is given summarizing the interactions present in the model. The lower connectivity of chemical versus biological holons has been observed. Turnover rates ·of all the holons have been assessed by the Delphi method. The range of turnover rates is six orders of magnitude. Forrester diagrams of several holons have been constructed and the one representing feedback dynamics of lead in sea water is attached as an illustration. Presently the conceptual model serves as ·a basis for the mathematical modelling stage.
