Body part terms – their origin and formation in English, German, Italian, Russian and Croatian
According to Loy, Andrews and Rinehart [6], human body is in the focus of the human movement science. It is regarded as the corporeal core of sport. Hence the names of its parts are inevitably used in this scientific discipline's technical discourse. The aim of this research was to analyze and compare the names of the parts of the body in five languages – English, German, Italian, Russian and Croatian. References were also made to a set of Latin and Greek body part terms used in medical anatomical nomenclature. On the one hand, the origin of terms was analyzed, and on the other the possible similarities between the languages as regards the number of independent elements—content and function words—that a term consists of was considered.
