Chapter 10. Developing Online Teaching Skills: The DOTS Project

This chapter by Mateusz-Milan Stanojević presents an overview of the main principles behind the development of self-training activities for language teachers as part of the Developing Online Teaching Skills (DOTS) project. The self-training activities, which help teachers implement information and communication technologies in their classroom, are designed for immediate implementation, they foster teacher reflection and sharing with others, and they are open. They are presented to teachers through a Moodle workspace and a series of workshops. The crucial aspect of the approach is continuous reflection about one's own practice, both as part of project development and as a vital part of the use of ICT in one's teaching. The chapter also provides context and background information to some of the research outlined in previous chapters. Stanojević concludes with a reflective task consisting of a set of practical suggestions on how teachers may apply such an approach in their particular context.
