Comments on the article about the evaluation of the results of percutaneous cholecystostomy versus cholecystectomy
We believe that comparison of the group of patients subjected to PCT with the group of patients who underwent cholecystectomy in the study design that was based only on the timing of intervention has too many uncontrolled confounders and therefore cannot provide relevant results. We agree with the authors' statement that “further study is required to identify which subset of patients will experience the greatest benefit from this technique.” However, we consider that it is very difficult to choose the study design aiming to compare the results of PCT versus cholecystectomy because we need to compare the results of patients “unfit for surgery” versus the patients “fit for surgery.”
