Innovation in Education from the (Ethno)Musicological and Kinesiological Perspective: the Project TAARLoG Case Study

In October 2012 the Department of Educational Sciences of the University of Juraj Dobrila in Pula hosted the implementation of the TAARLoG project (Traditionally in Alpe-Adria region: local for global). The project gathered fifty students from three different universities (Maribor, Trieste and Pula), who were accompanied by their teachers and mentors. The project included the implementation of Istrian folk dances, dance structures of majorette dances and contemporary dance dramatization. In addition to the dance structures, the students had the opportunity to learn performing songs with elements of traditional Istrian music in two voices and playing Istrian traditional instruments (roženice, mih, šurlice, vidalice, bajs and triještina accordion). By participating in the project, students perfected and acquired the basic steps and layout structures of individual dances (folk dances, majorette dances and structures of dance dramatization), and two-part singing and playing, which can and should be used in educational work for the development of anthropological characteristics of students and pupils. Performers presented publicly what they had learned and all the performances were recorded by students who participated in video workshops. The paper is based on the research of reception through the use of surveys conducted among the students who participated in the intensive Erasmus program. The collected data confirm the quality of implementation of the program, the satisfaction of participation and the possibility of implementing acquired knowledge in future work. Based on the results, it was concluded that the students who participated in the program were satisfied with the choice of the implemented program content, the quality of its implementation and the expertise of the lecturers. The project was evaluated with a high overall score (4.57). From the pedagogical, (ethno)musicological and kinesiological perspective, the authors conclude that similar innovative programs conducted in the future could have a significant impact on numerous characteristics of the anthropological status of students, who will be able to employ the acquired theoretical and practical insights more easily and with a higher level of quality in their work with preschool children and younger schoolchildren.
