Cubic [Ta_6Br_12(H_2O)_6][CuBr_2X_2]x10H_2O and triclinic [Ta_6Br_12(H_2O)_6]X_2xtrans-[Ta_6Br_12(OH)_4(H_2O)_2]x18H_2O (X = Cl, Br, NO_3) cocrystallize in aqueous solutions of [Ta_6Br_12]^2+ in the presence of Cu^2+ ions. The crystal structures of [Ta_6Br_12(H_2O)_6]Cl_2xtrans-[Ta_6Br_12(OH)_4(H_2O)_2]x18H_2O (1) and [Ta_6Br_12(H_2O)_6]Br_2xtrans-[Ta_6Br_12(OH)_4(H_2O)_2]x18H_2O (3) have been solved in the triclinic space group P-1 (No. 2). The compounds (1) and (3) consist of two octahedral differently charged cluster entities, [Ta_6Br_12]^2+ in the [Ta_6Br_12(H_2O)_6]^2+ cation and [Ta_6Br_12]^4+ in trans-[Ta_6Br_12(OH)_4(H_2O)_2]. Under the same experimental conditions, [Ta_6Cl_12]^2+ oxidized to [Ta_6Cl_12]^4+, whereas [Nb_6X_12]^2+ clusters were not affected by the Cu^2+ ion.
