Weather characteristics with aspect of maize and sunflower growing in context of climatic changes
Maize and sunflower covering about 40% of arable land or 5 156 466 ha (29.3% and 9.4%, for maize and sunflower) of four countries (Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Serbia) region. The growing seasons 2010 and 2012 are typical examples of climate trend characterized deviation of precipitation and temperature from standard averages. Annual grain yields of maize in the region for 2008-2012 period were from 2.83 to 5.39 t ha-1. Year effect on maize yield was very considerable because the lowest yield in 2012 (drought and high temperature stress) was for 47% lower than the highest yield in 2010. Yield variation of sunflower was lower, from 1.69 t ha-1 (2012) to 2.07 t ha-1 (2011).
