Challenges of teaching an ESAP and EGAP course

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) represents an important part of university curricula in English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries. This paper will briefly outline the development of EAP, and define its subcategories - English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) and English for General Academic Purposes (EGAP). It will address the context in which ESAP and EGAP courses are taught in Croatia, i.e. at the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The main focus of the paper will be on challenges of teaching ESAP and EGAP courses at the aforementioned faculties, and the possibility of introducing some elements of ESAP into EGAP courses.
