Analysis of disability due to ophthalmologic injuries in our wounded patients
Most frequently, eye injuries entailed premanent alterations of the anterior eye segment (29,1%), followed by eye bulb phthisis and eviscerations (11,24%), cataract (8,99%) and damage to the eye protection apparatus (6,74%). Blindness of the injured eye was recorded in 28,10%, and practical blindness of one eye in 7,86% of the cases. Total visual field loss in the injured eye was found in 30,34%, and central and paracentral scotoms in 22,47% of the eyes. Severe functional and esthetic defects were found in 40,43% of the injured eyes. Permanent working disability was found in 11,42% of the patients. Re-education was required in 27,14% and professional orientation in 12,86% of them. Capable for previous occupation were 30,00% and less capable 18,57% of our patients.
