Social Construction, Deconstructed Reality and Demography of the Croatian European Integration Process

In the aftermath of the Croatian Homeland War and Peaceful Integration Process it is difficult to conceptualize socially constructed forms of reality as an integral part of the EU accession process in Croatia. In this paper, the reality of Croatian European integration process is deconstructed against the background of socially constructed EU policies and demography in order to develop conceptual tools, which enables one to better understand the EU accession framework for Croatia. It is argued that the socially constructed forms of reality and demography developed through various EU policy papers and integration framework for Croatia diverge from the “true” reality of the post-communist transition and accession process. The analysis of official EU integration framework, policy papers and NUTS regional classification related to Croatia’s accession indicate a deep gap between what was socially constructed and what is the reality of the integration process. Issues and controversies related to the social construction, deconstructed reality and demography of the Croatian European integration process are, therefore, discussed to the extent to which methodological rigor allows for critical theory to sustain the argued scientific debate.
