Morphology of AlFeSi intermetallic phases and internal defects in AlMgSi billets

In this paper the influence of morphology of intermetallic phases in the two classes of billets: a bad billet with an internal crack and good raw nonhomogenous billet. Analysis of the chemical composition at the site of fractures in the feet of billet shows decreased content of iron and titanium, and the 3D β-AlFeSi intermetallic phase at this point is missing. Billets are made by semi-continuous casting procedure Wagstaff AirSlip in the foundry of the „Aluminij“ d.o.o. - Mostar. Casting billet used EN AW6060 alloy.
