ost of current high performanc e today are based only on CPU, but usage of accelerators and coprocessors are rapidly gaining acceptance in the last few years since they are used to boost performance and lower power consumption. There is a large number of high performance processors available: CPUs, GPUs, MICs, DSPs, FPGAs... each with its own char acteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
