Self-promotion and representation of Habsburg dynasty in the peripheral regions of the Austrian Empire

The paper focuses on the promotion and self- promotion Habsburg dynasty in the peripheral regions of the Austrian Empire in the period of the early 17th century to the ages of enlightened absolutism, the reign of Maria Theresa and Joseph II. References to the iconography of the 17th and 18th century’s artworks are predominantly considering the significance and the transformation of artistic discourse and the role of patronage in the iconography after the Council of Trent. In that respect artworks are exclusively interpreted on the topic of their role of propaganda fide, while some other aspects of artworks are often overlooked, especially in the sphere of self- promotion.
