Sensitivity (Sn), specificyty (Sp), predictive value of a positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) results of flow-volume curve parameters in asthmatic children

Within group of 217 children with mild and moderate asthma (A) aged 10.7±2.2 y. (136 males and 81 females) and control group (C) of 81 healthy children aged 10.4±2.9 y. (40 males and 41 females) we compared parameters of flow-volume curve: FVC, FEV1, FEF75, FEF50, FEF25 and FEV1%FVC. Sn, Sp, PPV and NPV of all parameters were determined. Groups A and C were not different according to the age, body mass and height (p>0.05). Measuring these parameters we’ll avoid hypodiagnosis and hypotreatment of asthma: from every third for FVC (NPV: 32.8%) or every second for FEV1 (NPV: 48%), on almost everyone for FEF50 (NPV: 60.9%).
