Sažetak
The global economic crisis and the drop in production lead to a sharp increase in unemployment in the Republic of Croatia. This applies especially to the young people that most often look for their first employment. Young people are the most vulnerable in the labour market because they do not have enough knowledge or skills, work experience or financial resources required for employment. The information show that the unemployment of the youth up to 25 years of age in the third quarter of 2013 was highest in Greece (58%), Spain (56, 4%), Croatia (49, 9%), Italy (40, 4%) and in Cyprus (40%). The students who represent a special group of young highly educated population were selected as a research subject, who will upon completion of their studies represent a workforce with the highest qualifications in the labour market. Therefore, the aim of this research was to investigate how the opinions and attitudes of students about work, leisure, and in general on the choice of employment, working conditions, etc. will affect the future labour supply in the Republic of Croatia. Particularly the views that they have about work and leisure time will dominantly form the future supply of highly educated young workforce in the labour market in Croatia. The research was conducted on 508 students who studied at the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Croatian public and private institutions of higher education. The research was conducted using a structured online questionnaire and was anonymous. The collected data were processed through different statistical methods with the aim of proving the connection between socio-demographic characteristics and particular scientific study areas and the relationship of students toward work, free time and desire to go to work abroad.
