The Ethnographic Interview in Collaborative Team Fieldwork.
Accessing research participants, developing relationships of trust with them and acquiring quality data that reflect ‘truths’ are major issues for anthropologists, which become more complex in collaborative team fieldwork. In this type of fieldwork, the ethnographic interview as a means of creating space for the articulation of experiences and worldviews acquires new dimensions and is subject to more critique. Factors that inevitably impact on the co-construction of data in ethnographic interviews such as researchers’ positionality, the research project’s goals and agenda as well as the overall context of the fieldwork research will be discussed in this paper. Drawing on collaborative team fieldwork among marginalised social groups in Croatia, this paper explores the issues and challenges of using ethnographic interviews as well as the dilemmas that were encountered during and after fieldwork.
