Reflection on Key Competencies for Lifelong Learning: a Structural analysis of Teachers study Programmes in the Republic of Croatia
Educating teachers on the initial level of the compulsory and elective courses of teacher studies provides teachers the acquisition of competences they need to transmit and teach the same among children. To acquire competence in the work of teachers in contemporary educational practice is directed to a process of lifelong learning. The aim of this paper is to analyze the structure of the study programs of teacher studies in Croatia by the name of the course and the teaching workload of the same, with regard to the the concept of key competences for lifelong learning according to the European Framework of Reference. In this paper compulsory and elective courses were classified according to the following competences for lifelong learning: communication in the mother tongue, communication in foreign languages, mathematical competences and basic competences in science and technology as well as digital competence. The results show: there are no statistically significant differences between teachers' studies in Croatia in teaching workload, considering the observed competence ; there are statistically significant differences among the teacher studies in Croatia in the possible teaching load for elective courses due to the observed competence. Despite the fact that after all the studies one gets the same title, the analysis of access to teacher studies the Republic of Croatia shows that the screening criteria are different in study programs at different universities.
