Failing Strategy Implementations
Strategy implementation is recognized as the source of frustrations and black box of strategic management process. This chapter summarizes the research attempts in defining implementation problems and critical factors. Further on, based on the previous empirical results, it suggests the integrative model of strategy implementation. We suggest that the core of the integrative model presents factors like resources, communication, people, control mechanism, operative planning and time. Strategy formulation has the role of antecedent for strategy implementation. The relation between formulating and implementing could be influenced by outer and inner environment (culture, structure and leadership). The basic conclusion is to that multiple factors should be considered simultaneously when developing and implementing a strategy. When researching strategy implementation there are two points of concern. The first one is the hierarchical level of respondent in empirical research, while most research is concern only from top management position, ignoring middle, low and non-managerial level. The second approach is to focus research on different levels, while the most research is focused on business, and less on corporate or functional level of organizations.
