Metal threads in costumes of Dubrovnik region
Costumes of Dubrovnik region are special due to influence of two different zones ; Adriatic and Dinaric. Dubrovnik region belongs geographically and economically to the Adriatic area but because of cultural and historical facts is sensitive to the influence of the Dinaric area. Folk costumes decorated with metal threads were applied in the 19th and 20th century. It was used for festive occasion such as holidays, weddings and other celebration. Metal threads were found on festive folk costumes especially on male, but also on manorial suits. Gold or silver metal threads were applied in a technique called "tersian embroidery" on clothing parts such as vests, jackets and knee socks. Ethnographic Museum in Dubrovnik has a very large collection of textile items which was donated by a teacher Jelka Miš.
