Fenton type Processes for DINA Petrokemija Wastewater Treatment

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the advantages of advanced oxidation technologies implementation for treating petrochemical wastewaters containing organic pollutants. Compared to classical approaches, AOTs are considered members of low and wasteless technologies for the treatment of wastewater with a minimal need for secondary treatment. Organic pollutants in wastewater present a specific problem due to their toxicity, bioaccumulation and poor biodegradability. Vinyl chloride (VC) is an important industrial chemical that is used in the manufacture of polyvinyl chloride ( PVC ). OXY - flow is characterized with a high proportion of organic matter , total organic carbon ( TOC ) ( 3-4 g / L ) and chemical oxygen demand ( COD ) ( 4-5 g / L ), high salinity , higher pH values and the presence of chlorinated hydrocarbons that are unsuitable for biological treatment . The primary objective of this research is to reduce the organic content, and investigate the possibility of effective application of Fenton-type process. Significant differences have been identified in the effectiveness of the photo-Fenton process with respect to the type of UV irradiation at the same process conditions. The obtained results show that the OXI water can be successfully treated with almost complete mineralization applying Fenton process in the dark and with UV irradiation ; reducing TOC up to 95.3 % after 4 hours of treatment.
