Physical Activity - a Powerfull Tool in Chronic Disease Prevention
A growing number of well substantiated studies have yielded results connecting sedentary life with greater incidence of many chronic diseases and low functional capability. Having in mind the generally accepted fact that chronic diseases have their source early, in childhood and adolescence, particularly concerning is the increasing prevalence of inactivity during adolescence. Physical activity level varies according to gender, age and is affected by numerous other factors environmental, socio- economic, educational, heath status, biological and cultural heritage and a series of others. Transversal studies show the lower arterial blood pressure, better body composition and better blood lipid profile in children with higher cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness. Recent studies are aimed at investigating possible effects of regular physical activity and fitness on newer, in the last two decades identified risk factors in children and adolescents (as are homocysteine, fibrinogen, C-reactive protein, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1, endothelial function).
