Cycloaddition reactions as the key step in the synthesis of covalently linked porphyrin-fullerene supramolecular systems
This review describes the utilization of cycloaddition reactions in the organic synthesis of porphyrin-fullerene molecular architectures, where two functionalities are covalently linked together. Proper choice of cycloaddends was found to be crucial for efficient assembly of exceedingly complex supermolecular porphyrin-fullerene conjugates. Synthetic power of cycloaddition reactions have been recognized by researchers dealing with the areas of new photoactive organic materials as crucial components for efficient artificial light-harvesting, energy and charge transfer processes.
