Značenje određivanja tireoglobulina u praćenju bolesnika s diferenciranim karcinomom štitnjače
The thyroglobulin (Tg) concentration has been measured in the sera of 80 patients with differentiated carcinoma who had undergone surgical removal of the thyroid followed by radioiodine ablation in almost all of them. Increased Tg levels have been found in 10 patients with the recurrence or metastases of the thyroid carcinoma which do or do not accumulate I-131. Somewhat higher Tg levels have been found in 5 patients without signs of the disease. Although these values are considerably lower than those measured in patients with metastases they should be followed up carefully. In patients with signs of residual tumor as well as in patients with residual normal thyroid tissue in the undetectable or low Tg levels have been found. Only in two patients with uptake of I-131 in metastases and in one patient without uptake of I-131 in metastasis low level of thyroglobulin has been found. It is our opinion that Tg measurement in the sera is a useful method since metastases have been found in some of our patients which could not be detected by the conventional whole body scanning with radioiodine I-131.
