Sažetak
The study materijal consisted of 35 brains taken from individuals who had suffered closed brain injury and died immediately or survived for up to nine years. The cases were divided into five groups according to the span of survival after the injury: group I - survival to 1 hour, group II - 1 hour to 3 days, group III - 4 to 14 days, group IV - 15 to 89 days, group V - survival of more than 90 days. The whole material was photographed, embedded into paraffin and examined under a microscope. Lesions of the tela chorioidea and choroid plexus were observed in all cases. They were accompained by lesions of the region of the fornix (88, 6%), corpus callosum (88, 6%), and periaxial periventricular areas (85, 7%). The tela chorioidea lesions were characterized by tears and ruptures of the tela at the sites of its insertion into the thalamus, as well as ruptures of the veins located there. These lesions were followed by bleeding into the reticular tissue of the tela and chorioid plexus, and by intraventricular hemorrhage. All the cases with survival lasting for more than 15 days had arachnoidal adhesions, resulting in high frequency of hydrocephalus recorded: group I and II - 0%, group III - 28%, group IV - 75%, and group V - 100%. Tears of the telas may occur and cause an intraventricular bleeding - even in cases with minimal blows, but sufficient to cause considerable acceleration - which spreads with the CSF into the subarachnoidal space producing a reaction to impairment of the CSF absorption and "normal pressure hydrocephalus".
