Colorectal tumors and the levels of basal gastrin in serum
Sixty five patients with colorectal tumours were included in this investigation (27 patients with adenocarcinomas, 11 with villous adenomas and 27 with adenomatous polyps). The control group consisted of 35 healthy persons. The results of this trial demonstrated significantly higher values of basal gastrin in the serum (p<0.05) of patients with benign and malignant tumours of the large intestine compared with the control group. The patients with large intestine villous adenomas had the highest values of basal gastrin in serum compared with the control group (p<0.01). Significantly higher values of basal gastrin in serum (p<0.01) were found in a group of patients with adenocarcinomas compared with a group with benign adenomatous polyps, and the highest values were in a group of patients with villous adenomas compared with a group with adenomatous polyps (p<0.01).
