The use of the optical position sensor for the protection of loudspeakers from cone over-excursion
This article proposes the use of the optical position sensor to measure the excursion and the current position of the loudspeaker’s cone, activating the protection circuit when cone excursion exceeds its maximum allowable value. The main advantage of the method proposed hereby is that its accuracy does not depend on the frequency or variations inthe loudspeaker’s operating parameters (coil temperature etc.). The method also increases the maximum available power that the loudspeaker can safely handle, at the same time offering a higher level of loudspeaker overload protection.
