Two Croatian philosophers: Georgius Benignus and Fredericus Chrysogonus.

Juraj Dragišić (Georgius Benignus) (Srebrenica 1445-1520, Barlette), was gray friar, philosopher and theologian. He left his hometown of Srebrenica before the Turkish invasion. Then he lived, educated and worked in Zadar, Rome, Bologna, Florence, Padova, Ferrara, Dubrovnik, Roma, Paris and Oxford. Inter alia, he was an educator of the children of the Lorenzo Medici. One of that children, Giovanni de' Medici in 1513 became a Pope (Leon X). He had contacts with the most famous names of the European Humanism of that time. He is most known for his defenses: Defensorium Bessarionis (1472, in manuscript ), Propheticae solutiones pro Hieronymo Savonarola, Florence, 1497, Apologeticon Francisci Mariae de Ruvere Urbini ducis adgressionis in Papiensem cardinalem (before 1511 in manuscript) and Defensio praestantissimi viri Ioannis Reuchlin Cologne, 1517. In addition to defenses, the most important and influential works of Juraj Dragišić are: Dialectica nova secundum mentem doctoris subtilis et Beati Thomae Aquinatis aliorumque realistarum, Florence, 1488. Mirabilia LXXVII, Florence, 1489, De natura coelestium spirituum quos angelos vocamus, Florence, 1499 and Artis dialecticaes praecepta, Rome, 1520 Frederik Grisogono (Zadar, 1472-1538) was philosopher, astronomer, doctor, mathematician and physicist. Hi is well known per theory of tides, based on the attraction of the Moon which he describes in De modo collegiandi, pronosticandi et curandi febres, nec non de humana felicitate ac denique de fluxu et refluxu maris (Venice, 1528). It is evident from the title of this book that Grisogono deals with medical, philosophical and physical topics. It’s interesting that this book include a paper device for measuring tides (time of year, the position of the Moon…) His first book was Speculum astronomicum (1507) and it contains Grisogono commentaries on Euclid's Elements.
