The development and structure of the fallopian tube
The Mullerian ducts appear during the 5th week. They develop laterally to the gonads and Wolffian ducts.During the 8th week of development the mesenchimal cells around the Mullerian duct differentiate in the periductal stroma. During the 9th week the Mullerian duct progressively elongates, its blind tip reaches the pelvic area and the duct crosses in front of the Wolffian duct to its medial side.In the 10th week, the Mullerian ducts fuse in the midline and form the uterovaginal canal (primordia of the body and the cevix of the uterus and the vagina). At early stages of differentiation, the Mullerian ducts are lined with a single-layered epithelium. The mesenchymal cells induce differentiation of embryonic Mullerian epithelium into a simple columnar epithelium of the oviduct and uterus.
