The development and the structure of the uterus
During the indifferent stage of sexual differentiation, the primordial genital tract of both sexes consists of paired undifferentiated gonads, mesonephric tubules, a dual duct system (Wolffian and Mullerian ducts) and an unpaired urogenital sinusEarly development and growth of the Mullerian duct occur without direct stimulation, i.e. with neither gonadotropins nor the ovary. In the embryo of 10 weeks the fused portion of the Mullerian ducts ends blindly and projects into the dorsal wall of the urogenital sinus. The cranial or unfused portion of each Mullerian duct becomes the uterine tube. The middle, transverse portion develops in uterine fundus aand corpu. A caudal longitudinal portion, which fuses with the other portion produces a common tube(uterine cervix and vagina.
