Quasistatic Absorption Coefficient of Two-Component Gases
The asymptotic calculations of adiabatic potential curves and quasistatic absorption coefficient for quasimolecular systems consisting of two neutral atoms are outlined. The application in an analysis of spectral lines originating in low density photospheres (atmospheres) of cool stars (Teff below 3000K) and other relatively cool astrophysical objects is suggested. Dipole-dipole interaction of neutrals results in van der Waals interaction, and resonance interaction when one of the atoms is in an excited state. In the calculation of quasistatic absorption coefficient the molecular oscillator strengths may figure as very important. The whole procedure is covered by computer algorithms. The results for the resonant line 459.53nm Eu* in a quasimolecular system Eu-Sr under laboratory conditions are presented.
