An@tomedia, The importance of general anatomy module
Aims: To present the development General anatomy module consisting of both theoretical and practical perspectives, incorporating all concepts associated with the structure and visualisation of the human body. Methods: The ‘General Anatomy’ module was developed following all design strategies for other modules that contain 4 perspectives: Dissection, Systems, Regions and Imaging. Results: Systems includes the principles for each type of organ (eg. joints, muscles, vessels) and an overview of the 12 organ systems (eg. skeletal, digestive, nervous). Regions includes the evolution, development and variation of the human body, its subdivision into 72 regions and the arrangement of structures within them. Dissection demonstrates how to manipulate structures with surgical instruments, organs at autopsy and the anatomical basis of practical procedures (eg. incisions, wound closure, injections, nerve blocks). Imaging includes principles for interpreting normal radiographs, sections and ultrasound images of living bodies and contains a complete set of endoscopic movies. Conclusion: An@tomedia in general provides the user with control over the rate, order and level of detail (including choice to explore each topic in a step-by-step fashion, or any other way, as desired). Photographic images (of unique dissections with coloured overlays) accompanied by text with illustrations, are coupled with identifications and clinical questions that interactively engage the user, enabling a focus on what is critically important. Any specific detail or item of information may also be easily accessed via the index or search engine. Using above advantages, the ‘General anatomy’ module deals with anatomical Concepts, Rules And Principles.
