The Role of Support System for Electricity Generation from Renewable Sources

In most EU countries renewable sources and cogeneration have been given a special treatment in the energy legislation. That is reflected in two ways. The first one denotes state incentives in investment or in repurchasing electric energy or the combination of the two, and secondly it can be the status of the favored producer, which means priority in offering electric energy. Certainly that is one of the ways to stimulate greater production of electric energy from renewable sources. However, what is questionable is the position of those producers that are not in the system of incentives, nor the present or the future ones. Which portion of electric energy production with incentives still represents an open market of electric energy? While it is kept on the level of 5 or 10 percent it does not present a great problem. But what if it goes much higher that 10 percent ; can it still be called an open electric energy market or is it a whole different model? How do we find balance between the incentive-oriented part of the market and the incentive-free one without jeopardizing interests or even the existence of the non-stimulated part?

cogeneration; eligible producers; feed-in tariffs; incentives; open electricity market; renewable energy sources
