Assessement of E.coli O157:H7 in milk and dairy products
This study examined the frequency of enterohemorrhagic E.coli in dairy products in the Zagreb area, Croatia. Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 (EHEC) strains can pose a serious health threat in tainted food. Traditional culture-based methods for assay of this enteric pathogen in food are relatively slow and results can be ambiguous. These methods involve pre- enrichment and enrichment broths for recovery of stressed bacteria, colony isolation on selective agar, biochemical tests and serotyping. Therefore, the immunomagnetic separation (IMS) is used for isolation.
