Frictional properties of spun yarns - influence of waxing layers
The importance of friction has led to extensive investigations about the nature of friction, its impact on textile processing, and its role in determining yarn and fabric properties. It was shown that the reduction of yarn count from 12 to 20 tex increases friction coefficient for all types of spun yarns. The minimal values of friction coefficient of non-waxed yarns are obtained for yarn produced form lyocel fibers, while the maximal for cotton yarn. After waxing in one passage, within all the yarns is observed significant reduction of friction coefficient and high uniformity of values. Waxing in the second passage caused significant reduction of friction values that are in the range 0.01 to 0.08. Comparison of the results presented in this paper provides useful insights about the uniformity of layers of paraffin on the surface of the yarn and has practical application.
