Different Perspectives on Family-Preschool Partnership
This paper provides a review of early childhood education policies, theoretical conceptions and relevant research concerning family-preschool partnership. In contemporaneity, children are increasingly being institutionalized. Considerations of this process in both the scientific and political discourse put emphasis on the importance of family-preschool partnership. The value of family-preschool partnership is viewed in the continuity between the altering settings in which children live, in the sense of achieving continuity in parents’ and preschool teachers’ values and practices, and children’s experiences. If family-preschool partnership is discussed as an arena of mutual activity and meaning making of all the involved stakeholders, it is important to gain insight into how all of them view family-preschool partnership and their roles in it. This paper puts special focus on the hitherto neglected perspective on family-preschool partnership – that of the children.
