Washing performance of soapnut shells
Numerous research efforts were targeted to advanced technologies, improvements of existing technologies, water, energy and chemical reduction in washing process, keeping an equal quality level or improving it, maintaining current detergency and stain removal performance, maintaining current hygienic requirements, and maintaining the original fabric properties of the processed articles. The aim of this research is to test washing performance of Soapnut shells using ultrasonic cleaning as a key enabling technology (KET), as compared to the conventional process performed in a machine of the horizontal rotating drum type. Soap nut shells from Sapindus mukorossi as a source of Saponins, were selected as providers of “green chemistry” in washing. The efficiency of Saponins performed in ultrasonic cleaning and drum rotating machine was compared with water through evaluation of heavy stains removal. The results confirmed a selective efficiency of soap nut shells in tested conditions.
