Influence of homogenization on structural homogenity of aluminum alloy EN AW-5083
For wrought aluminum alloys (EN AW-5083 alloy), an important role plays casting process of ingots, because the grain structure in as-cast (primary) state has a direct impact on subsequent processing and properties of the final product. Balancing the heterogeneity of the as-cast microstructure and chemical composition of semi-continuous cast aluminum ingots by "DC" process, and therefore improvement of mechanical and physical properties before forming processes, has been obtained by homogenization [1]. In practice (TLM Ltd, Šibenik), homogenization is carried out in pusher furnace for homogenization, in which the cast ingots has been suppressed by rolling through the furnace in a vertical position. Previous experience [2] indicates that homogenization process should be completed by holding of metal material (EN AW-5083 alloy) during 8-10 hours at the temperature of 520 ° C.
