DYNAMICS OF COLOR CHANGE IN UV SENSIBLE MATERIALS
There is a number of organic and inorganic materials known to undergo reversible color changes upon exposure to source of electromagnetic irradiation. Most usual wavelengths causing the change are within the ultraviolet (UV) and near visible (VIS) region. Such clearly visible changes in colour are described by the phenomenon of photochromism. Particularly interesting photochromic materials are organic dyes capable of transferring this property further on, either to solutions or various substrates via means of adequate deposition methods. Benefits derived from such newly developed materials in terms of ability to react to UV irradiation are immense. Potentially these materials could be used as indicators of existence of negative influence of UV rays within the closer environment of the substrate. This paper describes the reversion dynamic of color change to its basic state after excitation by exposure to UV irradiation in spots of dissolved dye deposited on silica plates and polyamide dyed by reportedly photochromic dyes.
