Convergence Issues in IP Network Routing
One of the main routing problems that appear whenever a change occurs in network topology is convergence, becaulse all the routers must develop a new understanding of the new topology. During changes in the network's topology, the process of converging on a new consensus of the networks topology may actually introduce instability and routing problems. It is possible to reduce network convergence time, depending of the rouing configuration. That issues will be explored in this article as well as influence of using different routing protocols, such as Routing Information Protocol (RIP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). Sun Solaris with integrated Merit GateD routing software has been used as a platform for this research.
