Sažetak
Behaviour of liquid wall films finds its application in many industrial areas - internal combustion engines, agriculture, bearing chambers, air blast atomizers, heat exchanger ducts, oil and gas production, transport in petrochemical industry etc. Numerical simulations are becoming valuable tool for detailed understanding of complex flow characteristics and transport phenomena appearing in such kind of multiphase flows, since experimental measurements are infeasible or too expensive. Given assumptions regarding thin liquid films, namely boundary-layer approximation, laminar and incompressible flow and Newtonian fluid, Navier-Stokes equations are converted to wall film governing equations which are modelled with a 2D finite volume method in the AVL Fire wall film module. The main limit of a continuous finite volume approach of the film models is behaviour of film encountering sharp edge. After thorough literature review, analytical force balance approach from Friedrich et al. was incorporated into existing numerical framework used to predict film propagation along a surface. This model is thoroughly validated by experimental data and, although has some inconsistencies, to the knowledge of the authors represents the most reliable model currently available. Within it, prediction of film separation is achieved through usage of force balance between inertia, which is trying to de attach film, and surface tension and gravitational effects which are opposing it. Improved model of liquid wall film behaviour developed within this paper is important contribution in continuous process where constant improvement of accuracy of the physical model used in CFD is necessary in order to comply with stringent requirements of the industry.
