Verification of the Liu and Jordan Insolation Model for Solar Collectors with Embedded Optimal Sun Tracking System
: With the aim of the environmental preservation and reduction in exploitation of the fossil fuels, solar energy in Croatia is getting increasingly exploited. It is to be expected that the use of solar energy for the production of electrical energy in Croatia will experience a strong growth. One of the possible types of solar energy exploitation is the application of concentrating solar collectors plant for the production of electrical energy (based on the organic Rankin cycle) and hot water. With the use of the concentrating solar collectors it is necessary to embed the Sun tracking system with the aim of getting acceptable thermal efficiency coefficient for the field of concentrating solar collectors. For designing of the mentioned solar energy systems it is necessary to determine the amount of monthly solar irradiation that is expected at a certain location. In the present paper this is determined for the place Debelo Brdo (44o 6' 9.3''N) nearby Zadar and Rovinj (45o 3' N). The values of monthly beam irradiations, without and with application of the sun tracking system, are determined and compared. The application of the Liu and Jordan model of frequency distribution of daily irradiation values is verified. The irradiation values obtained from the Liu and Jordan model and the irradiation values calculated with the use of the data obtained on the basis of meteorological measurements are compared.
