Plasma levels of interleukin-6 in alcoholic liver disease
The aim of the study was to determine the plasma levels of interleukin-6 in patients with liver cirrhosis. Using specific and sensitive ELISA, plasma levels of interleukin-6 eas determined. Plasma levels were significantly increased in patients with alcoholic hepatitis and alcogolic liver cirrhosis compared with healthy controls.Plasma levels of inteleukin-6 corelated well eith C-reactive protein (P<0, 05), bilirubin (P<0, 05), and negatively vith protrombin (P<0, 05)in patients with alcoholic hepatitis. In patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis corelated only with IgA concentration (P<0, 05). Plasma level of interleukin-6 may not only regulate many aspects of the acute phase response, but that it may also be a marker of inflammation and severity in alcoholoc liver disease.
