An Analysis of the Loading Capacity of Internal High Contact Ratio Gears

An increase in gearbox power ratings has been followed by a reduction in gearbox size and weight. This is possible because of high contact ratio (HCR) gears, because these gears distribute the load between at least two tooth pairs in mesh. Therefore the gears can be made smaller and lighter. The loading capacity of internal HCR gears has not been thoroughly researched yet. The method outlined in ISO 6336 is analyzed in this paper, and alternative calculation methods have been proposed, and the results compared.
