Analysis of Compartmental Syndrome Diagnostics Efficiency using Bioimpedance Measurement
A compartmental syndrome is a condition in which increased tissue pressure compromises the circulation and function of the tissue within that space ( occurring oftentimes in lower legs ). Permanent serious disability can occur in the absence of early diagnosis and prompt treatment. We made indisputable that early and noninvasive diagnostic of compartmental syndrome in lower leg is possible, using Multiple Frequency Bioimpedance measurement and Analysis ( MFBIA ). Four-channel bipolar technique of measurement with constant current of 0.1 mA, using self-adhesive cutaneous electrodes, in the frequency range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz, was practiced. In the paper, an analysis of MFBIA results on normal population and patients, suffering of ischaemic or compartmental disturbances, indicates that it is possible to confirm reliable normality criteria and to use proposed MFBIA for an early and noninvasive compartmental diagnostics.
