Evaluation of an in vitro model of electronic root canal measurement
The match between an in vitro model and actual measurement in vivo of root canal length was tested. Elements of a three-element electrical equivalent circuit have been obtained and their frequency dependence determined by measuring impedance in the range from 100 Hz to 1 MHz on a model and in vivo. It has been shown that there is a coincidence between the model and in vivo measurement only at lower frequencies when total impedance is determined by the impedance of the electrode-electrolyte double layer. At frequencies above 1 kHz the physical model does not behave, in electrical terms, as in vivo measurement. Therefore, due caution is required when drawing conclusions on apex locator accuracy based on model measurements.
