The Influence of Pretreatment of Spartium Junceum L. Fibres on Mechanical Properties of PLA Biocomposites
In this paper the different chemical pretreatments of Spartium junceum L. fibres using alkali (NaOH), nanoclay and citric acid with the aim of producing biodegradable composite material are discussed. As ecological demands in producing technologies are higher in recent years, the polilactide acid polymer (PLA) was used in this research due its renewability, biodegradability and biocompatibility. The effects of different pretreatments of Spartium junceum L. fibres on the properties of composite material were examined. Tenacity of fibres was studied by Vibroscope and Vibrodyn devices. The interfacial adhesion of the composite due to use of modified Spartium junceum L. fibres was examined at the breaking point using Scanning Electrone Microscope (SEM). Fibres which were modified with nanoclay and citric acid have shown improvement of mechanical properties of final composite material, for which they were used, in comparison to composite materials reinforced with referenced fibres
