Economic sustainability of organic production in Croatia
Using AHP method research compares organic and conventional production of agricultural products in Croatia based on level of fulfilment of the three criteria: (1) acceptable price premium, (2) cost competitivenesss, (3) resource demands. Average price premium that surveyed Croatian consumers are willing to pay for organic foods is insufficient to overcome the higher cost price and resource demands. Only organic extensive production of meat, due to its cost competitiveness, indicates more economic sustainability than related conventional production.
