Crucial Issues For The Industrial Implementation of Porous Silicon

Crucial issues for the implementation of porous silicon in industrial silicon solar cell process are considered from different viewpoints. Besides the intrinsic potential of porous Si as an alternative anti-reflection coating, the compatibility of the porous Si formation with screenprinted contacts on the one hand, and the cost aspect of the porous etching process on the other hand have been identified as the primary decision points. Three original concepts to limit the contact degradation and related fill factor decrease during porous silicon formation are specified and thoroughly discussed.
