Design and specification of the energy harvesters and underwater harvester anchorage

The deliverable is the result of the tasks T4.7 to T4.9. carried out by RITEH. Design and specifications of the harvesters and underwater harvester anchorage are given. Calculations of the underwater turbine concept based on wind turbine calculations are made. First models of the concept are developed using 3D modeling software. 3D printing technique is employed in order to develop first prototypes of mechanical parts. In the following step, the mathematical model of the piezoelectric eel is provided, where the eel is modeled as an extensible, large deformation Euler-Bernoulli beam. A beam-fluid interaction model based on the immersed boundary method is developed. As a first step, an approximate model is built in Matlab and first numerical simulations are carried out. The model is then implemented in C++ and further simulations are conducted. Additionally, a “hybrid solution”, representing a combination between the two previously proposed concepts, is theoretically investigated. First prototypes of energy management electronics are also implemented, based on theoretical energy consumption calculations and experimental measurements, and first laboratory tests are conducted.
